025. Christine Groh – Shamisen Recital

Mixed Media, 33cm x 41cm.

During a visit to Japan I met a Geisha and for the first time discovered and understood this traditional Japanese custom, far from what is usually thought of it in the Western world. Aspiring Geishas undertake a three year course how to become Entertainers. This involves dance, the arts (calligraphy, music), being widely read in both politics and classical literature, as well a how to dress and move gracefully.
