The launch of Haemochromatosis Awareness Week (13 – 19 August) was a great success with over 70 people in attendance. Ben Marris, president of Haemochromatosis Australia spoke about the importance of rasing awareness of haemochromatosis, the many activities and events to be held in conjunction with the Awarenes Week and our efforts to gain publicity and ensure the community learns more about the most common genetic disorder in Australia.
The launch was followed by a public information session by our distinguished guest speaker Professor Jacob George, Professor of Gastroenterology & Hepatic Medicine, University of Sydney who provided an informative and interesting presentation about haemochromatosis, its causes and effect and treatment. The talk was followed by a very lively question and answer session.
The full committee of Haemochromatosis Australia, the national support and advocacy group for people with haemochromatosis were present for the Annual General Meeting which concluded the event.
Thnaks everyone who came along. Your support and encouragement are very important to us.
Let’s make sure Haemochromatosis Awareness Week is a great success!
